Projects
- Site assessment, engineering design and resource consent applications of more than 110 conventional and ecologically engineered on-site and cluster wastewater systems – septic tank systems, advanced treatment systems, constructed wetlands, composting toilets, greywater treatment systems – for single homes, cluster housing and institutions.
- Technical advisor (sewage and water) for the Cooks Islands Marine Resources Institutional Strengthening project (CIMRIS), NZAID project, subcontract to ANZDEC and LI Ltd: 2006 – current.
- Technical advisor (sewage and water) to NZAID project: Development of sustainable water supply and wastewater treatment systems for coastal Fijian village, Votua; subcontract to NIWA, Hamilton: 2007 – current.
- Risk assessment and mitigation for wastewater and water supply, coastal settlement for Kapiti Coast District Council (2004/5).
- Design and consenting of wastewater and stormwater services for 6 rural schools in Canterbury for the Ministry of Education, South Canterbury, (current).
- Wastewater site assessment, risk assessment and mitigation, system design and evaluation of a number South Island DOC sites.
- Preliminary design for land application of wastewater options for effluent from the three Lyttelton Harbour wastewater treatment plants (Lyttelton, Governors Bay and Diamond Harbour) for the Christchurch City Council and with partner Co. ecoEng Pacific Ltd.
- Assist with the organisation and presentation of 2 to 3 day training courses (in both NZ and Australia) on on-site wastewater water topics in conjunction with the Centre for Environmental Training (CET, Offices in Blenheim, NZ and Newcastle, New South Wales). Since 2002 more than 15 courses have been offered throughout NZ, Australia and Rarotonga)
- Member of a national Steering Committee and co-author for the preparation of a handbook for small scale integrated sewage and wastewater management systems, organised by the Ministry for the Environment (2002)
- Technical evidence to the Environment Court on land disposal of wastewater (Blenheim, 2004)
- Technical advisor to Environment Canterbury Hearing Committee (2005)
- Research contract with Lincoln University Tourism Recreation, Research and Education Centre – impact of tourism on small town water, wastewater and waste services. Principal technical research co-ordinator responsible for field work and data gathering, data analysis and report writing. Study areas included West Coast and Akaroa, Hanmer and Kaikoura. (2002, 2003).
- Organised and contributed to On-site Wastewater Management Training Courses, (Christchurch and Blenheim, 2001, 2004 and 2005) presented by the Centre for Environment Training, Newcastle, Australia.
- Preparation of application for Sanitary Works Subsidy Scheme (Banks Peninsula District Council)2000/2002
- Reviewing of a number wastewater servicing options for Councils and Institutions
- Team member for the Charette Community Consultation and Planning process for Shotover Community, Queenstown Lake District Council, (May 1995)
- Consultant to Common Ground on ecological urban design for a Little River, (Banks Peninsula), Landcare village, (Lincoln),) and Hornby (Christchurch). (2000/2002)
